How Reiki Heals
Reiki has been shown to reduce pain levels, help with depression/anxiety, decrease stress, increase relaxation, and improve a person's mental, emotional and physical wellness.
It does this by activating the parasympathetic nervous system, which in turn releases oxytocin within the body. Oxytocin is called the 'tend and befriend' hormone because it signals the body that it's safe to relax and repair itself. By inducing anti-stress-like effects (such as reduction of blood pressure and cortisol levels) the body moves out of fight/flight response and puts energy back into repairing itself.
But that's just one part of the picture, as Reiki works through the many layers, levels and dimensions of our Being meeting the individual at the level they are ready and willing to heal within themself.
